The application period for the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon entry drawing, and the period to claim guaranteed entry, ended February 15, 2018. The entry drawing took place on February 28, 2018. Runners not accepted into the event can still get entry via Team for Kids and other charities.
How Do You Know You're In?
You can guarantee your entry to the race right now by registering to run with NYRR Team for Kids. Team for Kids runners receive guaranteed entry to the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon, expert coaching, and race-day perks while raising vital funds to support NYRR youth programs.
The TCS New York City Marathon brings together a diverse field of runners from the NYC area and beyond. The non-guaranteed entry drawing helps preserve the geographic diversity of the race.
The entries available to non-guaranteed applicants will be filled through three drawings (“Drawings”), to be held for this year on February 28, 2018, one in each of the following applicant pools:
- “NYC-metro area” applicants (i.e. residents in and within 60 miles of New York City)
- “National” applicants (i.e. U.S. residents outside of the NYC-metro area, including Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories)
- “International” applicants (i.e. non-U.S. residents)
After completing the Drawings for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon, 16,211 runners were added to the field from a total of 98,247 applications. Approximately 17% of NYC-Metro Area Drawing applicants were selected (5,145 runners); approximately 17% of National Drawing applicants were selected (6,748 runners); and approximately 17% of International Drawing applicants were selected (4,318). Thus, the pool of runners accepted through the Drawings was made up of 31.7% NYC-Metro, 41.6% national and 26.6% international applicants.
Other factors such as an applicant’s state of origin also may affect their chances to be selected subject to NYRR’s need to maintain geographic diversity and within NYRR’s sole discretion. NYRR reserves the right to adjust drawing criteria at NYRR’s sole discretion and without notice.
Once you submit your application for the non-guaranteed drawing, you have authorized NYRR to charge your credit card a non-refundable entry fee upon acceptance into the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. You can remove your name from the applicant pool prior to the drawing, but once you are accepted by any method, all fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. NYRR does not contact applicants prior to accepting them in order to reconfirm that they wish to be selected.
